Do Damon Braces Really Move Teeth Faster?

We all want everything faster. You may have heard that Damon braces can straighten your teeth faster, with fewer appointments, and without extractions or expanders. What is the Damon System and is it better than regular braces? First of all, I need to make a disclosure. I use Damon brackets and I love them. They are currently in their fourth revision and I’ve been a fan ever since they came out in the early 90’s. Having said that, there are myths about what they can and can’t do, and I’d like to share my opinion based upon 20 years of…

Does It Really Matter Where I Get My Invisalign?

Does It Really Matter Where I Get My Invisalign?

Invisalign is one of the most remarkable advances in orthodontics in the last 20 years. I use it. Invisalign offers patients an alternative to good old-fashioned wires and brackets. It is more attractive, allows more normal eating during treatment, and permits better hygiene…all positives! Because it doesn’t require learning how to place and adjust complicated brackets and wires, Invisalign has attracted the attention of general dentists in addition to orthodontists. Finally, emergencies may arise when an unexpected result is…

Although some people are born without wisdom teeth (and some have extras), most of us have four. Officially known as “third molars,” wisdom teeth become visible in x-rays between 10 and 15 years of age and become a concern around the time we graduate from high school (age 17). Some patients become aware of their wisdom teeth because they hurt, but most find out they have them from their dentist as he (or she)…

Can’t I just get orthodontic braces on my bottom teeth?

Can’t I just get orthodontic braces on my bottom teeth?

My teeth were perfect until my wisdom teeth came in. Now the lower ones are all messed up. Can’t I just get braces on my lower teeth and put them back where they were? Single arch treatment is possible… under the right circumstances. The determining factor is the relationship between the lower and the upper front teeth (commonly referred to as “the bite.”) The depth of the bite as well as the amount of “overbite” both figure in to the decision. When crooked or overlapping teeth are straightened with braces, they move forward. If you have and overbite before treatment,…
